Dunrobin Rink Rules of Use

1. Patrons using the rink and DCA facilities do so at their own risk and voluntarily assume all risk associated with any sport or event. The City of Ottawa and the Dunrobin Community Center do not accept responsibility for related risks or injuries.

2. It is highly recommended that all users wear a helmet and that hockey players also wear a cage or face mask.

3. During Family Skate times, Adults have the right to ask all hockey players to leave the rink.  Should the families agree to share the rink with hockey players, the middle/centre net is NOT TO BE USED.  Only the net at the far end of the rink can be used, in order to prevent pucks from entering the family skate area.  Anyone not abiding by this rule may be asked to leave.

4.  During non-family skate times, hockey sticks and pucks are allowed.  No raised stick shots are permitted at any time, nor is body checking.  Anyone playing roughly may be asked to leave the rink.

Dunrobin Rink Maintenance and Canteen

FLAGS:  RED FLAG means no skating. The rink may appear to be in good condition, but sometimes the snow is kept on the surface to help protect the ice if warm weather/rain/freezing rain is expected.  Red flag may also be raised when the ice is soft.  Skating on it could cause further damage.
YELLOW FLAG– skate with caution.  Uneven ice surface and cracks.

Flooding:  Generally the rink is flooded at 10 pm each night, subject to favourable weather conditions. Flooding can not take place if the temperature is warmer than -5. (Wayne???)
Clearing:  Generally, the rink is cleared of snow by 4 pm weekdays, and by 9 am weekends and holidays / PD days. If the weather is warm, snow may be left on the rink to protect the ice.  In such a case, the RED FLAG will be raised.

Canteen:  The canteen is manned by volunteers.  It is our intention to be open per the schedule posted on the website under “Skating”.  If volunteers are not available, the canteen and building will be closed.

Trailer / Building Access:  The Trailer is opened at 4 pm weekdays and is generally closed at 10 pm when the lights go off.  The building is open per the posted schedule on the website subject to volunteer availability.

Notification if ice opening/closing:  If you wish to be notified of closing/opening of ice, please join the NEW Dunrobin Community Facebook Page.  This is new so it may take us a while to get the hang of keeping it updated.  You can also join the mailing list which can be found at www.dunrobincommunity.com.  We will do our best to notify of closures but please keep in mind we are all volunteers.

Concerns:  If you have any concerns or wish to volunteer to help with the rink/canteen or other DCA activities, please contact Greg Patacairk at (613) 447-9076 or greg.patacairk@dunrobincommunity.com
